In response, I havent changed anything on the printer at all As suggested, I tried everything in your note to no avail other than to go out and buy a new cartridge. Im a little reluctant to do the latter at this stage as I have a monthly subscription with HP supposedly to cover the costs of replacement ink cartridges HP Instant Ink so at this stage im a little reluctant to shell out any additional funds to purchase outside this scheme Wooders, I'm wondering if you ever received a satisfactory response to your inquiry.

I've had the exact same problem happen today. I did nothing to the printer. It worked two days ago: today, error message--same as yours. I went through all the general troubleshooting steps AND replaced the print cartridge. The printer recognized the new cartridge and started the head alignment procedure but stalled once again with the "print cartridge installed incorrectly" error.

I haven't heard a thing out of anyone, Wendy I'd hoped someone else would post on the issue. It doesn't appear that the original poster was offered anything other than new cartridges, which will not help under the circumstances.

Cartridge error installation error started appearing approximately 2 yrs after initial purchase. I am enrolled in automatic monthly cartridge refill program.

I have only installed hp cartridges provided by hp. The error message first starting appearing on only the black and white cartridge. I read where you can print with just the color cartridge so I removed the black and white cartridge and started printing in a one cartridge mode.

That worked fine for about 6 mos and now I am getting the cartridge incorrectly installed error message back using just the color cartridge. I have been able to restart and reinstall the cartridge several times and printer does work temporarily, but error message inevitably seems to keep recurring.

I don't believe that installing a new cartridge will solve the problem.
